Some Nokia phone users may encounter an error message that says "Cannot create file C/ program files/ODEON /JAF/winscard.dll" when they try to use the Odeon JAF software to flash or unlock their phones. Odeon JAF is a software that allows users to modify the firmware of their Nokia phones, such as changing the product code, language pack, or unlocking the network. The software requires a P-Key emulator, which is a virtual device that simulates a physical dongle that is needed to run the software. The P-Key emulator uses the winscard.dll file to access the smart card reader and the smart card that contains the license information for the Odeon JAF software.

How to fix the winscard.dll error in Odeon JAF

There are several possible causes and solutions for the winscard.dll error in Odeon JAF. Here are some of them:

The winscard.dll file is missing or corrupted. To check and restore the winscard.dll file, follow these steps:

  • Go to C:Program FilesODEONJAF folder and look for the winscard.dll file. If it is not there, go to C:WindowsSystem32 folder and look for it there.

  • If you find the winscard.dll file in either folder, right-click on it and select Properties. Check the file size and version. The file size should be around 28 KB and the version should be 5.1.2600.2180 or higher. If the file size or version is different, you may have a corrupted or outdated winscard.dll file.

  • If you have a corrupted or outdated winscard.dll file, you can download a fresh copy of it from [here] or [here]. Save the file to your desktop and then copy and paste it to both C:Program FilesODEONJAF and C:WindowsSystem32 folders. Replace the existing files if prompted.

  • Restart your computer and try to run the Odeon JAF software again.

The P-Key emulator is not compatible with your Windows version or settings. To fix this, follow these steps:

  • If you are using Windows 7 or higher, you may need to run the P-Key emulator in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3. To do this, right-click on the P-Key emulator icon and select Properties. Go to Compatibility tab and check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" from the drop-down menu. Click OK and then run the P-Key emulator as administrator.

  • If you are using Windows Vista or higher, you may need to disable User Account Control (UAC) before running the P-Key emulator. To do this, go to Control Panel and click on User Accounts. Click on "Change User Account Control settings" and move the slider to the lowest level (Never notify). Click OK and restart your computer. Then run the P-Key emulator as administrator.

  • If you are using Windows XP, you may need to enable Smart Card Plug and Play service before running the P-Key emulator. To do this, go to Start and click on Run. Type services.msc and press Enter. Look for Smart Card Plug and Play service and double-click on it. Change the Startup type to Automatic and click on Start button. Click OK and close the Services window. Then run the P-Key emulator as administrator.

The smart card reader or the smart card is not working properly. To fix this, follow these steps:

  • Make sure that your smart card reader is connected to your computer and that it has a green light indicating that it is powered on.

  • Make sure that your smart card is inserted correctly into your smart card reader and that it has a gold chip facing up.

  • Try to use another smart card reader or another smart card if you have one and see if the error persists.

  • Try to update the driver for your smart card reader. To do this, go to Device Manager and look for Smart Card Readers category. Right-click on your smart card reader and select Update Driver Software. Follow the instructions to search for the latest driver online or browse for the driver on your computer.

If none of the above solutions work, you may need to contact the Odeon JAF support team or the P-Key emulator developer for further assistance.
